This book does have a lot of places to look for treasure. However, many of the sites are located in state or national parks, forests, battlefields, etc. Treasure hunting in such places is not allowed.
I live in Texas, so I was disappointed to find that Texas started on page 321 and then pages 322 to 326 were pictures and after 326, pages 307 to 322 are repeated and then two more pictures and then we are on page 345. So we skip Texas all together. Not the author's fault. Bad proof reading. It's useless for me, so I will be returning it.
As beginner I liked this book because it gives lots of information on where to find treasure, how to research locations, getting permission and examples of cool finds! So much to learn but great fun doing it!
Save your money get the information off the internet
This book offers a bunch of treasure legends, which may or may not be true. Most of these can be found online. Also, this book is basically a Garrett metal detector ad. I would not waste my money.
The local information given here is not very helpful and sometimes even misleading. National monuments ( like Tumacacori Mission in arizona) and even gated state historic sites, some with museums such as the ruins of the Old Tubac Presidio in Arizona are listed as though they were abandoned ghost towns. There is some good information here but it's hard to know which information you can trust. The problem is, that unless you are personally familiar with a particular area the information here can be sketchy at best and woefully out-of-date or misleading at worst. I think this book was "slapped together" with more thought given to selling books than to careful research. If you just want to know the names of places, lost mines or ghost towns in a given area this will work, but if you want much more information than that... you're on your own.
Great
I think that an index by state and type of area would be a good addition to this book. As it is, it lists several areas you are not allowed to hunt in included as sites to hunt! In addition, for Ohio and Pennsylvania at least, there are a large number of sites listed that just have wrong information. This combined with a lack of a usable index or system of classifying sites, would lead me to recommend that you wait until the next addition comes out and corrects these issues before spending your money on it. However, if you have no idea where to go to metal detect, it does provide some useful information on where to go.
