About the Author

Oliver Sacks was a neurologist, writer, and professor of medicine. Born in London in 1933, he moved to New York City in 1965, where he launched his medical career and began writing case studies of his patients. Called the “poet laureate of medicine” by The New York Times, Sacks is the author of thirteen books, including The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, Musicophilia, and Awakenings, which inspired an Oscar-nominated film and a play by Harold Pinter. He was the recipient of many awards and honorary degrees, and was made a Commander of the British Empire in 2008 for services to medicine. He died in 2015.

the chapter where dr. sacks describes his own vision loss was my absolute favorite. if only more people had highly trained medical friends they could just phone up to check on them whenever they were experiencing problems. it is a very frightening experience to lose one's vision. and imagine doing so outside of a city, without public transportation, or an assistant to take you everywhere you need to go whenever you need to go there.i'm very glad my vision is back and i've done all this research and worked with my doctors to determine the cause (not a brain tumor). but for the almost full year it was either gone or wrong it was hell, especially for an impatient person like myself, who could barely do the necessary research to help determine the cause without being able to read properly. it makes you feel very vulnerable, and nervous, and dependent. dr. sacks obviously felt the same way.i think it's important for people to realize that doctors are humans, not gods. they suffer the same maladies we do, and make mistakes just as often. it is also crucial for doctors to remember this as well, for when, if ever, they become the patient.

Oh terror of terrors, to start losing your ability to see letters and connecting them together into words. Visual anomalies, the stuff of nightmares with names such as alexia, agraphia, agnosia,anomia, prosopognosia (face blindness) etc. May the odds be with you! A reminder of the things we take for granted and we could lose with no warning and so, like they say: count your blessings!Oliver Sacks delivers another annotated and poignant account of real cases, including his own with a melanoma tumor on his retina, of people faced with these conditions. Another fascinating look at how the brain works and more specifically of how vision is interpreted by the brain. For me, a special new appreciation for life in a three-dimensional world. This is a remarkable testimony not only of the power of adaptability and creativity of the brain, but the different ways people find to cope and thrive despite their circumstances. Oliver Sacks writes his scientific research and explorations of the mind with compassion in his well known flowing prose and captivating style.

This book,"The Mind's Eye", by Oliver Sacks, is fascinating, absorbing, and vastly entertaining. Like most of his other books, it is the true story of his personal experiences; this time, with his sight, along with his neurological analysis of what was happening in his eye and in his brain. The optical "delusions" are fascinating, and perhaps difficult to truly appreciate if you haven't experienced them. I have experienced the loss of three-dimensional vision several times, upon awaking - it only lasted a few seconds, thank goodness - and my daughter has had vision problems in one eye due to detachment and folding of the retina - she sees a normal view in the bottom half of that eye's sight, but on top she sees only a quarter of the scene, and it is turned sideways. And the most amazing thing is not what the (physical) eye sees, but what Sack's brain does with that information. Probably everyone has experienced - whether or not they realized it - the completing of a scene over the natural blind spot of the optic nerve connection at the back of the eye ball, or the continuation of a motion that you didn't actually see. Although he mentions some of his other books - "The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat", and "Awakenings" (made into a wonderful movie starring Robin Williams), you do not have to have read those to appreciate and be highly entertained by "The Mind's Eye." I strongly recommend this book.

The wonderful thing about Sacks' books is that his stories never grow stale. He continues to inform, enlighten and entertain readers with his fascinating case studies, which date back to Migraine (1970). Sacks has long infused his stories with personal anecdotes, but in this book he reveals his own battle with eye cancer which resulted in the loss of his prized stereo vision, telling us about his love for stereoscopes dating back to his childhood.The book focuses mostly on visual perception and how the mind processes this information through its dense neurological framework. The initial case studies deal with persons who have suffered perceptual damage due to strokes. He refers back to several of his previous works, notably The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat and provides a number of historical insights into visual perception, as he tells of persons who have suddenly lost their ability to read and even differentiate everyday objects around them.Perhaps his most interesting chapters are those on stereo vision. The first about a woman who was able to regain her stereo vision with corrective work on her eyes, and his own sad loss of stereo vision due to cancer in one eye. Here, he provides wonderful historical insights into visual perception, references a number of key works, and provides an interesting glimpse into his own life.He closes with a fascinating chapter on how persons deal with blindness, starting with John Hull, who essentially accepted his blindness and came to rely on his other senses to perceive the world around him, to a boy who developed a powerful sense of echolocation to compensate for his sudden blindness, to other cases where persons learned to build elaborate internal visual worlds to compensate for their loss of "vision." No two cases are alike and Sacks once again shows a wonderful sensitivity to his patients which make his books so appealing.

I mean this is book 3, so by this point I have to assume that most readers already know what we’re getting into with Bushido Online. All your favorite characters are back and the mystery drama and politics are still there in full force. As the title suggests this time around we spend most of our time in the wargames portion of Bushido Online, which is nice considering that we’ve been hearing about this part of the game more or less nonstop for the last couple of books and really only got a glimpse of what it would look like at the end of book to.My one issue with the book is that unlike in books 1 and 2 we spend very little time dealing with The realities and emotions that make this world so attractive to our main character. Those elements are there, but I feel like they are minimized in favor of the virtual world’s excitement and intrigue and for me this is a little disappointing. Lit RPG novels that focus on the game and the characters are a dime a dozen, ones that focus on the psychology of the gamer and give us good reasons why the game is more attractive than real life are rarer. So when I found that Bushido Online not only did this but did it very well, I was thrilled and I knew I had found something special.Still, the characters are entertaining and fun to spend 600+ pages with, the world is fleshed out, the game is something I think we’d all very much like to play, and it’s exciting. I very much enjoyed my third trip back to this world and can’t wait to come back again whenever book 4 is released.

Read this novel in one day and wished it wouldn’t end. Great editing and challenging plot. Now I have to wait for the next book. Probably the best litrpg series written by English speaking author (sorry Aleron Kong) Definitely worthy of reading.

The Ronin and his crew are back for more adventures and new mysteries to solve.The new War Games make for interesting adventures where the players have to work together and I'm looking forward to see how the author uses them in the story.The new mystery answers some questions and adds a bunch more.Great story looking forward to the next one.

This was a great third book. I can't wait for a fourth. However like the last book the author could stop here. The MC is in a much better place. However the action in the game is really getting exciting.

Good book and the game elements are integrated smoothly with the world. It feels like it could be just an ordinary adventure until the level up happens.

This book has it's "suspend belief' moments, and cliche main character unique mindset leads to OP moments... but I still love it. Seiki is a character I love to root for, and it was very satisfying seeing him utilising his MMA background into his fighting style as well as coming to terms s his life. The worst part for me Is the long wait for the next book. (≧∇≦)

More character development and the world keeps getting more complicated. Excellent

If you're a regular reader of Kristen Ashley, you pretty much know what you're going to get in regards to the H/h, as well as the general story arc. So, Jagged was similar to the first 4 books in the Colorado Mountain series, but without the suspense that those ones had. Reese is an alpha hero who knows he'll get his girl. He just has to have a very small degree of patience and exhibit all of his alpha-tender tendencies. Reese was first introduced in For You ('Burg Series) as a past love interest of February Owens and now we get to see him get his HEA. I really felt for Reese in For You and liked how his story was developed here. This story seemed a bit rushed for a KA book, but that's relative since her books are usually deliciously long. Rushed for KA, is a normal romance length for every other author. *SPOILER* What I really didn't like was how Zara's ex-husband was treated in the bulk of the book. He was a good guy who loved Zara, but Zara had "settled" and realized she just couldn't stay in the marriage. When Reese came back and became an "us" with Zara, he didn't like that the nice ex-husband was still a friend to Zara, albeit a heart-broken one. So he proceeded to minimize everything about the ex and was painting him as a bad guy. It came off insecure instead of protective. *END SPOILER* I like alpha-males in romance, but I would also like them to have a bit more empathy and humbleness than what Reese ever showed. Overall, it was a good story that I enjoyed and devoured like every other KA book.

Another great read. This was the last of the seven books in the Colorado Mountain Series. I left this book till last, I don't know why, it seemed the least appealing to me - boy was I wrong. I fell in love with Ham (Graham Reece) & Zara. KA writes a good book, you share their laughter, tears, & their emotions.As always, KA sprinkles her stories with some of the characters from other books - which I just love. Reading her books is like getting together with old friends for a drink and catching up with them. The words flow, the story carries you along until the end, and I always wish for more.While I am familiar with the songs KA sometimes mentions, I played them when I was reading the book, and really listened to the words. I thought Zac Browns - "Cold Weather" was the perfect song - that described Ham & Zara's love.Anyway, I loved this book, hope you do too.

I loved this book! My sister and I had a long convo re: Jagged and why we liked it and others didn't like some aspects of it.I liked the mellowness of this book. No super villany bad guys stalking the H/h (yeah her dad is a piece of work but no serial killer!) Just a story about restarting a relationship and what it takes to get there and the usual KA family drama that goes along with most of her stories (one of my favorite parts).Maybe it's my age, but I get it, I get it. You look back on mistakes and past relationships with a different viewpoint once you get into your 30's and 40's (moi). Your expectations change, your plans change, the way you "thought" your life was going to go takes a 180 and you find yourself on a different path with different needs you didn't know you had. It doesn't make what you have "now" wrong or not as good as what you could have had earlier in life, it is just what it is and maybe it's what you've always needed.I loved the journey Ham needed to take to get to where he was and the process in the story that we had to through with Zara to believe that he had changed and WHY he had changed. In the end, I was convinced of Ham's love for Zara and that his love for February was in the past and even if he had gone through with a relationship with Feb it would have never have been as strong as the one he has with Zara.

I have red this book twice and loved it but both times but I have always been a bit irritated wth Reece. I found him to be a loyal friend but he is a player and I never understood how he was able to go from woman to woman with all of them knowing he was a player and still they would have a relationship with hi time again knowing this. I just never got that!! I know he had issues with past relationships but I never got why all the woman kept coming back to him. I still think that he was really in love with February and ended up with Zara as second best. The only reason he finally ended up with Zara was because February didn't feel the deep love for him that he felt for her and obviously she had a boyfriend her long lost love.Yes I know he explained his supposed feelings for February but I never bought that at all. I really think he wanted children and he loved Zara in his own way but he thought that he would finally take a chance and settle down and have children.

Dan Jenkins has been a sports journalist since he was in high school in the 1940s. During that period, he wrote for various Dallas/Fort Worth newspapers before relocating to New York City and gigs with Sports Illustrated, Playboy and Golf Digest. In addition to publishing articles for those magazines, he also penned several highly entertaining novels (including Semi-Tough, Dead Solid Perfect, Life Its Ownself, Fast Copy and Baja Oklahoma).His Ownself is largely a memoir, filled with entertaining anecdotes from his decades of covering golf, college and professional football and various other high profile sporting events. Jenkins came from a different generation of sports journalist that covered a different generation of athlete, often as not, the two sharing drinks and chasing women on the night before the big game.You can imagine, in Jenkins’s opinion, present day athletes don’t measure up against the likes of Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Bobby Layne, Sam Baugh and Doak Walker. Chief atop his list of mollycoddled, pampered, spoiled, modern athletes is Tiger Woods. Jenkins has waged a feud against Woods from his Golf Digest soapbox for many years now. Jenkins is the consummate curmudgeon, and admittedly so.I’ve read almost every Jenkins book to date and have found them to be very entertaining, easy reads, and this one is no exception. Dan Jenkins is somewhat of a polarizing character, seen by some of the more tightly-wound in the world of sports and sportswriting these days as a politically-incorrect dinosaur, but there's no denying his bonafides as a sportswriter. In a career that has spanned 65 years - so far - he has written about golf and college football, mostly, and other sports when called upon to do so, for the Fort Worth Press, Dallas Herald, Sports Illustrated, and Golf Digest, with a few years of providing a sports column to Playboy magazine as well. He has covered more of golf's major tournaments than any writer living, and speaking of that, he is one of only three golf writers to have been inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame (the others being Herbert Warren Wind and Bernard Darwin) and the only one inducted, in his words, "while still vertical".In "His Ownself: A Memoir", Jenkins reaches into his formidable memory and comes back with tales of his early life growing up in a sports-crazy town, Fort Worth, Texas, in a sports-crazy time, the 1930s. College football and golf were the most important sports of his formative years, with the TCU Horned Frogs in town and the SMU Mustangs just down the road in Dallas, not to mention that two of the greatest golfers ever to swing a club, Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson, were also Fort Worth native sons.Jenkins began his career with the Fort Worth Press, starting on the job as an incoming college freshman. Many characters and personalities, and even thinly-disguised versions of real-life incidents from his own life, have made their way into his fiction over the years, and the dedicated Jenkins reader will be delighted to discover these serendipities as they read this book. I'm sure that some more critical readers, encountering the real-life incidents in this memoir that have been reflected in Jenkins' fiction will lambast him for the roman-a-clef qualities of his novels, but personally, I delighted in discovering these matchups between real life and fiction.The bottom line is that anyone who is a fan of sportswriting, especially where it pertains to golf from the days of Hogan, Nelson, and Snead to the present, is doing themselves a disservice if they don't read "His Ownself: A Memoir". Over the years, Dan Jenkins saw it all, knew them all - and wrote about it all, in the kind of brash, sometimes cynical, sometimes playful - but always insightful - prose that is a rare commodity in these tip-toeing days of million-dollar tournament paychecks and big-buck corporate sponsorship. No sports fan's library is complete without this book.

I have most every book Dan Jenkins has written (I think I have all of them!)... and enjoyed several movies based on his grand works (SEMI-TOUGH will always be easily accessible in my DVD collection). HIS OWNSELF: A SELF-MEMOIR, his latest creation, is my personal favorite. I have the honor and pleasure of knowing Dan, both of us living in the same city, Fort Worth, and existing in approximately the same age bracket. Being in his company is never a bore! This book captures the easiness and traits of the best sports writer on the planet. No, I'm not "laying it on a bit thick"! Dan Jenkins has won every single award possible, yet maintains that special quality of writing --- in the same frame as he speaks. He is a casual conversationalist, and the pages reflect the feeling he is chatting with you! I found myself laughing out loud as Dan focused on some of the happenings in his personal life, yet he also reveals some facts pertaining to his ultra-successful professional career that grab the attention in a strong manner that could never be contrived! He knows all of the top pro golfers, of course (he is amongst those special giants in the WORLD GOLF HALL-OF-FAME!) and shares many mind boggling memories with us. Although he is highly diversified when it comes to sports, especially college and pro football, the golf links seem to be his specialty. He was a close, personal friend of Ben Hogan (played dozens of rounds of golf with the man many, including his peers, considered to be the grand master of them all, yet almost "unapproachable"). He releases his thoughts toward Tiger, as well as almost every big winner in the difficult game, dating back to the '50s. Dan doesn't put on the brakes, it would be completely "against the grain" for him to do so --- even though he may make some of the top players develop a case of the "yips" as they absorb this masterpiece! This is one book that I promise you'll enjoy, even if you're not hooked on golf. Of course, you'd expect this from Dan Jenkins. He breaks par on every page!

I received it yesterday thank u. I order this to study for the MBR/mblex test. I've been looking for platysma muscle on this for the.last few hours. It doesn't list all the origins and insertion point of every muscle. Platysma is one that you won't find on here. Luckily there's Google. Font for the wording makes it harder for me to find the names fast.

Its an 8x10 page and it is clear and easy to read. i'm so excited. my friend has one and she said if you use a vis a vis marker on it, it may not come off all the way. i wasnt planning to mark on it at all, but figured it may be useful info to someone. so excited to use this!!

This is a great reference material to quickly catch up on some info. It helped me pass my TEAS and get in to a Nursing program.

These come in handy more often then I imagined. Especially during my studying hours for my mblex! They are small enough to fit in a binder, also big enough to hang on your wall for a quick run through. Definitely worth the money!

Font hard to read and the anatomical names did not tie to the textbook I learned from. However it was nice supplemental info. to get the "big picture" down.

I was hoping for a quick guide to look at, but you really have to study it to know what you are looking at. Each muscle is written on the sides and then the origin/insertions are in blue/red. You have to already know your stuff really well, don't get it as a review for the MBLEx, that's what I wanted it for...it won't help.

I bought this thinking I would need something to reference more but I haven't really used it at all. I'll keep it and see if I have a need, but I found other study materials that better suited me. Depending on your class and requirements for learning origins and insertions of muscles you may find this more handy.

This guide while handy is really hard to understand. If you have no idea about muscles do not start with this guide. The origins and insertations are kind of hard to distinguish unless you have prior background knowledge.

Got this book as a present for Christmas, and the designs in it are beautiful. I especially like how the many intricate sections of each illustration let you be as crazy or simple as you want. Great way to relax and kill some time.

Got as a stocking stuffer for Christmas, the pictures are really detailed and pretty.

My wife has a very stressful job and spends most of her free time with our kids (and me when I'm lucky). She swears that coloring helps her relax, so I buy her coloring books often. She seemed to like this one in particular. Whoever you are, A. R. Taylor, keep making more books. She really liked your message and she loves animals. Knowing that I got her a gift that makes a difference in the lives of animals (she's a teacher and volunteers at our local animal shelter) also made her happy.

The drawings and designs in this book are very well done! The patterns are intricate enough to make it interesting without being so small that it gets frustrating to color inside the lines. Each page has blank backing, so there is no need to worry about your gel pens bleeding through to the other designs! I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes animals, art, and taking their mind off the daily grind for a few minutes (or hours!) to create something beautiful!
