Decent books to use for the pre-2015 mcat. Strategies here are pretty useless; if you're already using PR strategies, you don't have time for any of this "advanced" stuff. However, wish I had done a few more passages out of here, since they give you really long passages. None of the other materials did this, so I was thrown a little by how long the passages were on the real test. Would have been nice to have done a few more like these.

Should be okay, but don't depend solely on this to get a high score. This will pretty much become obsolete when the new MCAT comes out Spring 2015, so make sure you don't buy it if you plan to take the MCAT after January 2015.

This is a new, first edition MCAT preparation workbook. The primary aim of the book is to introduce a methodical, step-by-step approach to the MCAT which can truthfully be applied to any standardized test.Roughly the first half of this book teaches you how to effectively take practice tests. It first directs you to take a practice test available on the Princeton Review website. Then, it demonstrates how to correct your test and hone in on the problems you missed by using their rating system.The second half of the book is divided topically as follows: general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics and biology. Within each chapter, there is a brief reproduction of the list of concepts which will be tested on the MCAT (similar to the list provided by the AAMC.) Then, it provides about 50 questions per subject area to practice with (about 10 passages and several stand alone questions per subject.)All-in-all, this workbook provides a unique approach to test taking. For me, it's just a little bit gimmicky and the process a little time consuming. I'm not sure that I need a cumbersome rating system to denote the difficulty level of questions I missed. However, I might use their approach and simplify it a bit for my own use. In either case, for the price, it's a good source of practice questions and tips. If you've already reviewed concepts from each subject and are ready to try additional practice questions, take a look at this book. I would consider it a solid resource.

I purchased this book with the hopes of polishing my exam taking techniques after ensuring that I had a firm grasp of the material covered on the MCAT. I had two major issues with this book:First, I found that the practice questions and exams involving calculations were too precise. Questions found in the book relied on the use of calculators, which are not allowed on the exam. The questions were not asking about the relationship of variables on the exam, but instead would ask for certain values with high precision, not allowing for mental math.Another issue I had with this exam was that the advanced strategies offered for the verbal reasoning section are gimmicky and will only waste your time. I would not suggest trusting this book's strategies for the verbal reasoning section of the exam. If you really want to hone your strategies on the Verbal Reasoning section, turn to Exam Krackers. The practice questions were also dissimilar to the stems used on the actual AAMC verbal reasoning, making for less than effective practice questions.I purchased this book knowing that it was going to ask questions that were harder than ones found on an actual AAMC practice exam. I was disappointed with this book because Princeton Review's way of making the questions harder was to use questions that are beyond the scope of the MCAT and make for less effective study material.

Content was nice at the begging but actual test have many major typos which make it difficult to take tests since sometimes answer choices are exactly the same. Furthermore, the online material sucks. I took a practice test about 5 hrs and then it decided that I couldn't save it and the only option was for the company to reset it so that I had to take it again. The support was super cheapo too. They had to ask me for my password to verify that the test was frozen! SERIOUSLY this is embarrassing Princeton.

The verbal in this book seemed esxceptionally challenging, which made the real thing much easier to get through! The other sections were good also, mainly for practicing questions. I did well on my MCAT so I can say this book helped.

When my kids were little we had all the Wee Sing cassette tapes for in our car and also to play in the house. When I discovered that they are still for sale and on cd, I had to get them so that my granddaughter could also share in the sweet little songs like her parent did. What I always loved about Wee Sing, is that the songs are sung by kids. I would recommend ALL of the Wee Sing music. Parents need to let their kids listen to innocent kids music and not all the stuff that "they" listen to. Too many young kids are having their innocence taken away because parents don't want to give up "their" music and movies. I love the innocence of the these classic children's songs.

I like this CD for the kids as an introductory tool to bible songs. The only problem that I have is that most of the songs only play for 30-40seconds. :( which leaves me to have to complete the song with the kids without music. Other than that it is a great CD.

Good price. Had this as a child & Love that it’s still around for my kids. Has short choruses & songs that teach things like the books of the Bible. Also many popular Christian kids songs. The book includes melody line with chords which is useful for having for church programs etc.

I grew up listening to wee sing tapes and now my kids listen to the cds. They’re great for learning a Sunday School songs. After a few months of listening to it in the car the kids could sing along. They ask for one of the wee sing cds every time we drive anywhere !

It is very hard to find Children songs that remain untouched from today's indoctrination away from true biblical teaching. These songs were truly a blessing.

I have used this product for about 25 years ! (in audiocassette version) I am happy to have the CD version...great songs !

I have 3 girls under 4 years old and they absolutely love Wee Sing!I enjoyed the accompanying book with music notes and words so that I could learn all the songs accurately.It was a great spring board for talking about the Bible and introducing stories for even the littlest listeners.My 3 year old daughter has wanted to get books out of the library on Biblical heroes and heroines because of Wee See.The songs are catchy and cute, some have motions and all are easy enough for kids to grasp and remember and don't grate parents ears like other "kids sing" mixes.I would recommed to anyone with children ages 7 and under.

My grandchildren love these songs! They make them so happy and a great teaching tool as well. I even learned all the books of he Bible with the catchy song!

I liked Jared Lander's "R for Everyone", the earlier entry in Addison-Wesley's "Data & Analytics" series, so I was looking forward to "Pandas for Everyone" - and mentioned it in my November 2017 review of "Pandas Cookbook" by Ted Petrou, as a just-around-the-corner alternative to wait for. Privately, I wondered if "Pandas Cookbook", a very decent book, was going to be completely eclipsed by "Pandas for Everyone" after just one month on the market.Now, I don’t think that is going to happen. Between the two titles - and the two, along with (of course) Wes McKinney's "Python for Data Analysis", are, in my opinion, the only Pandas titles worth considering - I prefer Petrou's, as a book with more substance and clarity. By all means, "Pandas for Everyone" is a good, original book, but one that is visibly under-edited, which makes its presentation less effective than it could be. There is less Pandas in it than in "Pandas Cookbook" - on the other hand (and this may be a plus for many readers), a couple of chapters are given to illustrations of statistical and machine-learning algorithms. (Applied to Pandas dataframes - that's the Pandas connection).My advice to a Pandas learner would be to get "Pandas Cookbook", "Pandas for Everyone", and "Python for Data Analysis", see whose style you prefer, and leave 1-2 books for further study.

Most python data analysis textbooks start slow and build their way up to Pandas by way of NumPy. In contrast, Pandas for Everyone opens with an extended discussion of the steps involved with reading in and manipulating data. For the most part, chapters are bite sized and self contained. However, the examples are basic and I had to supplement this book with Wes Mckinney's "Python for Data Analysis: Data Wrangling with Pandas, NumPy, and IPython" and Jake Vanderplas "Python Data Science Handbook" in order to fully understand what was going on under the hood.

The author has a very well organized way to present the concepts of data analysis (i.e. the what) and the tools (i.e. the how to part) without aiming to high in the complexity not boring the reader with the basics of python as many other books about Pandas.Best book in the market bridging the gap between basics and intermediate levels. Very practical, concise, and very engaging reading experience.

Tonight, down here in the valley,I'm lonesome and oh, how I feel,As I sit here alone in my cabin,I can see a mansion on the hill.Hank Williams,"A Mansion on the Hill"I spent my high school summers working in the kitchen of a camp in the Poconos. It was dirty work but a great paying gig at sixty dollars a week. Of course, there wasn't a hell of a lot to do at night and that was a problem: What's the good of being sixteen and on your own if you can't go completely insane?Sometimes we'd borrow a car and drive to New York, where the drinking age was still eighteen and we stood a better chance of getting served. But usually we'd just sit around the dilapidated shack we lived in behind the kitchen, getting loaded on whatever we could lay our hands on and listening to records. Among eight guys there were four stereos and over two thousand albums in that bunk: the bare necessities required for two months away from civilization. Music -- rock and roll -- was far and away the most discussed topic. (Girls and drugs were tied for second.)As great as the music was, the ongoing conversation was really about something more than solos and songs. Listening to rock and roll was learning a secret language. There was something conveyed by the attitude of the bands and their records that stood apart from the music, and the way you spoke that language told people how you felt about the world. When you first met someone, the conversation turned immediately to music because once you knew which bands a person listened to, you knew if you were going to get along.It was a lot like administering a psychological test. First you'd check to see if the basic language was there -- the Beatles, the Stones, and the British Invasion bands; Motown and Stax; the San Francisco groups; Dylan. After that, you'd probe special interests for signs of sophistication or character flaws. For instance, a passion for a perfectly acceptable but lightweight group like Steppenwolf showed a certain genial rebelliousness but suggested a lack of depth; a girl who listened to a lot of Joni Mitchell could probably be talked into bed but you might regret it later; a single-minded focus on the Grateful Dead and the New Riders of the Purple Sage was a sure sign of a heavy dope smoker; anyone with a record collection that traced the blues further back than John Mayall and the Yardbirds was an intellectual. It was, I recall, a remarkably accurate system.Nearly twenty-five years later, after spending much of that time as a music business reporter, I'm not sure that secret language still exists. The question -- at least to someone my age -- is no longer "Will rock and roll change the world?" but "How did the world change rock and roll?"Rock went through a dramatic transformation in the mid-sixties. The folk-rock movement brought a new artistic, social, and political intention to the music that early rockers did not have. Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis -- all were extraordinary and inventive performers, but they aspired to show business careers, not to creating lasting art. The same is true of the early Beatles, and it was folk artists -- and Bob Dylan in particular -- who changed the music's parameters and aspirations to include a quest for legitimacy, values, and authenticity -- specifically an interest in populist folk forms and populist politics of the left. Folk was entertainment, but there was a real and right way to play it. "It was musicology," Peter Wolf of the J. Geils Band remarked to me in recalling the spirit that infused the coffeehouse scene. That distinction set folk apart from what many of its fans viewed dimly as the junk culture entertainment that post-World War II consumer society produced solely for the sake of being sold. Considering the increasing rejection of those values in the early sixties, it's not surprising that folk found a new resonance, especially on college campuses, that led to the "folk boom" of that period. When Dylan and others created folk-rock, those aspirations were transferred to electric music, and the results proved far more popular and profound for the mass culture than folk had ever been. The most influential rock albums of the later part of the sixties were made by people who took themselves quite seriously -- as did their listeners.        Just a few decades ago rock was tied to a counterculture professing to be so firmly against commercial and social conventions that the notion of a "rock and roll business" seemed an oxymoron. In 1962, the year before the Beatles' debut, the $500 million record business shunned rock music -- "It smells but it sells" was the guilty refrain of those who stooped to recording and releasing rock records. With the rise of the popular rock culture in the sixties, as rock albums supplanted films and books as the most influential popular art form for young people, the mainstream entertainment industry embraced the music. At the better-run companies, the fiscal results were astounding: although largely unnoticed, the twenty-two-year history of Steve Ross's Warner Communications, Inc., reveals that the record operation was the firm's biggest, most dependable financial engine; the corporation widely considered the preeminent American media conglomerate of the age was literally fueled by rock and roll.The entertainment industry has done more than survive its head-on collision with rock's antithetical culture -- it has thrived. This year, largely on the strength of rock, the worldwide record industry will gross over $20 billion, and global media and technology giants like Time Warner, Sony, Bertelsmann, Philips Electronics, and Thorn-EMI will view rock bands as key assets. How did this happen? And what does it mean that bands accept it?Seriousness and artistic intent were a key part of the growing appeal of the subsequent "underground" rock scene. But the success of that scene also revolutionized the music business. It's easy to forget that in the early sixties the sound track to West Side Story was the number one album in Billboard for fifty-four weeks -- and that for certain rock stars today its sales figure would be considered disappointing. That commercial revolution had a huge and not necessarily positive effect on rock music. It bred financial opportunities for artists and a certain professionalism that has proven to be at odds with a quest for authenticity. I have nothing against commercial success, it's just not an artistic goal in and of itself. What I find most troubling is that the scope and reach of the business often make it impossible to tell what is done for art and what is done for commerce -- which calls into question the music's current ability to convey the artistic intent that made it so appealing and different to begin with. And, if the acquisition of wealth and influence is rock's ultimate meaning, then the most meaningful figure it has produced is the billionaire mogul David Geffen. Indeed, it's more than ironic that Geffen's appreciation of the dollars-and-cents value of the music has placed him in a position to exert a greater influence and power over society and politics than the artists -- it may be the measure of a profound failure by the musicians and their fans. Geffen is a visionary businessman and a generous philanthropist, but I never sat around the shack behind the kitchen when I was sixteen trying to divine the secret language of business, and I don't know anyone else who did. I wasn't looking for the mansion on the hill, and I didn't think rock and roll was, either.

Neil Young and Rick James used to be in a band together. Neil Young is color blind and epileptic. The Eagles carved their career specifically to be rich and successful. Bruce Springsteen isn't the brightest of bulbs. As a breed, record label owners and musicians' personal managers are giant tools. David Geffen got super-rich mostly due to good timing. Much of the what we know as the music industry was formed by individuals who aspired to be rich and influential power players, not by the development or nurturing of good music or musicians. The success of Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA" album was preordained and the product of a marketing juggernaut. Jon Landau was never a good record producer but that didn't stop him from doing it anyway.There -- that's a gross oversimplification of "Mansion on the Hill", with a couple of fun facts tossed in.I've been reading quite a few books lately on the record business and the movie business (emphasis on the word "business"). "Mansion on the Hill" is one of the better ones I've read, but its impact on me was sort of like learning as a kid that there was no Santa Claus. There is often an ugly and depressing truth under any facade of glitz and glamour, and MOTH peels back each layer to show you the behind-the-scenes players, the histories, the pettiness, and the ugly manipulation.What little respect you may still have for the music business will be whittled down to next to nothing before you are finished with this book.It's a fascinating read nonetheless.Good companion books to read with this one include "Hit Men" (published 7 years before this one but might be better if read after this one) and "Appetite for Self-Destruction: The Spectacular Crash of the Record Business in the Digital Age" (to be read after MOTH).The music business is steadily being eroded from the inside. It's almost over, folks. Music has now officially become "product" (and that's not really news). And if you watch "American Idol" and buy those contestants' records, you are probably part of the problem.I feel bad for young kids today who grow up thinking that the new junk they hear on the radio today is good music. They're just too young to know how deluded they really are -- or how much they've been robbed.

Most underated book about rock history. This guy tells it like it really happened. Prepare to have your little rock heroes bashed around a bit, possibly. No punches pulled, the real story is told here, filling in the blanks to the history of rock. This will really help you understand why you were listening to that lamo junk music on the radio when Led Zeppelin II was collecting dust!

Interesting look at the music and radio businesses at one point in time. The appeal of the book is primarily with anyone who grew up with Boston radio in the '60's and early '70's but is an enjoyable read for anyone else.

THis books seems to be a great footage of rock articles. IT presents no definitive theory about the rock industry, nor it gives a real portrait of the rock scenario through the years. It only gives separeted pieces of histories about Springsteen, Buffalo Springfield, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Peter Frampton, Grateful Dead, MC-5 and a handful of others. The writing style is dry and badly developed. DOn't recommended.

I really love this book called “Then” it is set's during World War 2. The story would make you laugh and cry with them. It is a really sad book the main character is Felix he is 10 years old boy and need to find new parents knowing that his got killed by the Nazis. Then Felix meets a girl called “Zelda” she is 6 years old and also her parents were killed by Nazis, so they both decided to be a family. They both went to find new parents they meet a farmer who has a dog and now their a family. As you read the story you will know how the farmer becomes a family with them.I connected the boy is my age I also realised how tragic it was during World War 2.Since this story is really sad even for me, some of the words kids would not understand it is such a great book and I think kids above the age of 9 should read it. I would give the book 5/5 stars it’s such a great book and I think you’ll enjoy it.

I liked the fact that there were more than one books in the 'once' series. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys action, but also to someone who likes a sad book or is looking for info on WWII. You may want to read 'Once' first though. I rated it 5 stars because I don't normally cry over any books, but this one had a few tears escaping. Morris Gleitzman, I thank you for writing this book and also writing Once, After and Now. I also thank the people who died and went through struggling attempts to get the stories of the holocaust to people now. I pray for all the families who are suffering during any crisis today or any other day. The people who died will remain in our hearts.

I teach a class that studies the first book in this series 'Once.' On completion, they were desperate to read the next installment, 'Then.' When that happens, you can be assured a book has what it takes!As an adult reader, I found the ending somewhat rushed, and tragic events happening almost too quickly to allow them to sink it -Gleitzman perhaps missing an opportunity to drive home his message.

My 16 year old loved this series!!

My Year 8 students were held absolutely spellbound by this novel. It moved some to tears, (including their teacher) and some to anger. Perhaps the most profound effect it had was to make the children ask, as they often did, how can people treat other human beings like this? We read 'Once' last term, 'Then' this term and we plan to read 'Now' next term. Thank you Morris Gleitzman for bearing witness and making this terrible time in history accessible for my students.

I think this book was absolutely fascinating and I am very excited for the next one. I liked all the ups and downs of this particular book in the series. I would recommend this to people who love stories of the Holocaust.

An incredible, heartbreaking story.This series should be a must read for every student (and adults as well).
