This is really a darling book! Using the characters from the beloved "five little monkeys songs/fingerplays," the author illustrates the two songs [Jumping on the Bed and Sitting in a tree], but then goes on to create more stories for them. She uses unexpected humor when after all the kids are chastised for jumping on the bed, Mama Monkey goes to her bedroom...and jumps on her bed too. Spoiler alert for "Five Little Monkeys Sitting in a Tree": the monkeys do not get eaten by Mr. Crocodile. :-) Whew! Thank goodness for sequels. Additional stories in the treasury are:"Five Little Monkeys with Nothing to Do, "Five Little Monkeys Bake a Birthday Cake" and "Five Little Monkeys Wash the Car." They are all very creative and fun. Most importantly, kids love them. There is a table of contents, and each story is bordered with a different color on the bottom of the page, so it is easy to find where a new story begins. It also has a short lesson at the end on how to draw a monkey, the words to one of the songs and stickers for kids to have fun with. I purchased it as a used book on Amazon, got a great price and an almost perfect copy. The author has written two more stories about the monkeys that are not in the Treasury. They look really cute, as well, "Don't Wake Up Mama" and "Five Little Monkeys Reading in Bed." They are also available at Amazon.

My niece will love to receive this gift! The book is hardcover, heavy, the page stock is heavier than normal, and the book is beautifully illustrated. The monkey stories are so cute. There are five stories, plus "Learn how to draw a monkey" instructions, and the music to Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed in the very back of the book. It is really a keepsake version, to be sure.

What's not to love about this. If I remember correctly - only the first 2 actually seem to flow well into a song. The rest are more story-form. The first two I usually do a bit of singing with my daughter instead.Interestingly enough - the first time I read it to my daughter - she already knew "SNAP!" for the alligator story! So it must be something she is already familiar with at daycare :) Was so awesome knowing my daughter was a fan of it before I had even gotten to read it.

My son loves the 5 little monkeys books. I was so glad to find this set. Each story has a different colored stripe on the bottom of the page so it's easy to find the next story. The stories are cute and a great length even for young kids. Perfect for my 3 year old. I Like that it's a hardback book. We will read and enjoy for many years to come.

I got this mainly for my four year old. He is obsessed with Five Little Monkeys and I don't blame him. These stories are CUTE!!I love how she took popular songs and turned them into stories- jumping on the bed, sitting in a tree. I love the humor in the stories and the adorable artwork. This is a classic!

I wanted to knock one star off because I got tired and thirsty every time when my son demands that I read the whole book to him. But then it would not be fair. I got it at a discounted price for less than 4 bucks, which makes it a best buy, especially compared to the 20-page book I got for $20 from my son's daycare's book sale.

I purchased this book for my son. I was excited to find a book with several Monkey stories in one place for a good price. We had borrowed the Jumping on the bed and crocodile stories from the library and my son absolutely loved them. I figured all five stories would follow the same rhythmic singsongy writing as those two. I was disappointed to find I was wrong. While my children enjoy those two stories the other three are quite bland and unentertaining to them.

My mom bought my son Five Little Monkeys Jumping On the Bed from Sam's Club, and since he seemed to enjoy it, I picked this one up. I like how there are five stories to choose from so I don't get tired of reading the same one, even though repetition is the best way for kids to learn things. My son loved picking a sticker after we finished a story each night, but we've since run out because he enjoys reading from this book the most of all the books he has.

This character encyclopedia goes into character's description based on the plot of the anime/manga. No personality, appearance, or relationships (except if in relation to plot of story) descriptions aside from character's birthday, weight, height, famous quotes in story, and affiliation/location.Organization is not good for a "Character" Encyclopedia. Instead of having everything alphabetized with corner/side bar tabs; everything is organized through chapters with groups/barigade/corps/etc. Even worse is that within these chapters, its organized by most famous to least; making looking up info a chore as if you have to flip to the index every time.Book is black-and-white (aside from cover) manga format, down to the size of the book.There are some nice commentary segments randomly sprinkled throughout the book where the author/writer talks about how characters came to be, and a very nice QnA/interview segment at the endYou'll have way more data and insight on the each character if you visit the free fan wiki page online. This book does go into some obscure characters with minimal screen time, but it just amounts to one or two lines about them.In my personal opinion, this is not really a reference book; rather a good book to read in chunks to give you recap on characters in relation to the story.

Inspired during an encounter with an irate customer while working at an internet cafe, the encounter would eventually be the basis of his hit series which is known internationally as “Attack on Titan”.In 2009, “Shingeki no Kyojin” began serialization in Kodanasha’s “Bessatsu Shonen Magazine” and is currently on its 26th tankobon volume. With three light novel volumes, multiple video games, manga spin-offs two live-action films, many would discover “Attack on Titan” thanks to its 25-episode anime series which began airing in April 2013. A 12-episode second season would be released in 2017 and now in Japan, a third season has begun airing.With nearly 25-volumes released in America, Kodansha is releasing the “Attack on Titan Character Encyclopedia”. A primer for those who are later in the manga/anime series and may be a bit confused with the characters, the “Attack on Titan Character Encyclopedia” helps understand where the story is currently at and the characters featured.By no means, should anyone read this if they read less than 22 volumes or only watched the first season of the anime series. That is unless you don’t mind wanting to be spoiled.There are spoilers in this book as it is meant for loyal readers, in fact, this encyclopedia features spotlights on nearly every major and minor character and key scenes.May it be focusing on the Survey Corps, the Military Police Brigade, the Garrison, the Training corps, The Royal Government and its Associates, the Citizen of the Walls, the People Beyond the Walls and more.The “Attack on Titan Character Encyclopedia” also features a guide to the Titan-inhabited areas, who the nine titans who gave power to the Eldians and also Hajime Isayama revealing how his characters were born.Also, a long interview with Hajime Isayama is also featured!Overall, the “Attack on Titan Character Encyclopedia” is recommended reading for “Attack on Titan” fans who are further ahead in the manga and anime series.

Not really sure who the target audience is for this. As other reviewers have noted, it's written for readers of the manga, as it has quite a few spoilers if you've only seen the anime. But it's also written for someone who has read most (if not all) of the available volumes, so it's assuming an audience that already knows everything in this book.Additionally, the information in this "encyclopedia" is pretty basic and mundane -- it tells you things that you never would have missed (e.g., that one character feels protective of another after the death of their mother), or that you just don't care about (e.g., their birthdays). It's also somewhat brief -- for something referred to as an "encyclopedia," there's not a lot of content, and although some characters get multiple pages, most characters share a single page with other characters, so this "detailed guide" is most just a brief summary of each character, rather than discussing their place in the larger world, or their appearances in the manga/anime, or any other information that you would actually want pointed out.Finally, although the illustrations are decent (and basically the same as the manga), it's entirely black-and-white, and it's all little sketches and vignettes, rather than detailed scenes, etc., which gives it a kind of quick-and-dirty slapped together feel.

This is a helpful character encyclopedia for Attack on Titan if you're a fan of the series but definitely contains spoilers up until... oh, the latest volume or two (or the last several chapters, I'd say). It's about the size of a manga book, which is a little disappointing since it is an encyclopedia book, but I guess it'll fit in on your bookshelf with everything else, and it doesn't contain any new art from what I can see, just from published manga. It does a good job of collecting all the characters, though, which is helpful with a series that's run on for 20+ volumes and is still going strong (and let's face it, has a habit of killing off people as well as a strong plot line). More importantly, here's where you can get some insight from the series' creator, Isayama, in why he designed certain characters the way he did, so if anything, you might find the book interesting for that.Just be aware that, due to the size of it, it won't be too indepth, but you get what you pay for in the end. It's more an encyclopedia-light - I imagine one with extra/rare artwork and more detailed information (such as the evolution of the fighting/maneuver gear) would cost more money.

Audrey is a talented writer and gives plenty of information, often with wit and experience, to the reader. Unlike another reviewer that found the first half of the book uninformative as it spoke generally about paddling kayaks, I disagree: the first half of the book is it's strength, and very exactingly details the differences in paddling Hawaii--sun, food, fishing, sharks, coconut opening, camping--you name it, and Audrey S. does a fine job in relating very clearly her years of paddling these islands. This information is very important to kayakers and is specific only to these islands.The weakness of the book, however, is what should be, by definition, it's strength... places to paddle in the 50th state. Unfortunately, the maps are very sketchy, and the descriptions are brief and often unorganized. I compare Paddling Hawaii, for instance, against Mike Svob's classic guide Paddling Illinois, and the differences are stark; Svob's maps, details of put-ins and take outs, things seen along the route, points of interest, and other similar information is thorough, comprehensive and organized. Ms. Sutherland, on the contrary, provides a cursory review, haphazardly organized, of several paddles on each island, but is in no fashion comprehensive on any island (I know of a couple popular paddles not in this book). The information, although helpful, is not as detailed as would be expected. I'd say this is a middling book on Hawaii paddling, but to the best of my knowledge, is the only one in existance on this subject.

The maps are not especially detailed. The itineraries are vague. The equipment lists are not up to date.But this is a well-written paean to kayaking the seas around the Hawaiian islands. If you read this book and are not excited about kayaking the islands, then there is no sense of adventure left in you. Take this book and some good maps, and talk to some folks in Hawaii about the areas you want to kayak. Then you'll be ready to hit the water.The approach is a simple kayak (inflatables are more highly regarded here than most places), a tarp for shelter, mask, snorkel, and fins, and a good preparation for self-rescue. Audrey Sutherland has gone most everywhere in a kayak, and her experiences form the backbone of the book. This is the Hawaii paddling book.

I misunderstood what this book was for. I had read Audrey's Padding North book, which I loved, that was more of a narrative and description of her experiences. This book is for people who plan to kayak around Hawaii. I'm sure it is informative, but unfortunately, I was confused by the similarity of the titles and have little use for it.

Very detailed and precise for nearly all coastal areas. Best serves as a safety consideration for any Hawaii paddler!

Love Audrey Sutherland's writing and her life. I was expecting more of her own stories rather than information for people who want to paddle in Hawaii (which I do not). Paddling My Own Canoe and Paddling North were fabulous

There are so many How To books available on every topic imaginable, but rare is the How To that is deeply inspirational. This is such a book. Within two weeks of reading it I did three of the trips she described. Her sections on safety and gear are without unnecessary adornment and shimmer with authority and personal experience. The writing is clear, sometimes humorous and made me want to drop everything and paddle off into the horizon. Reading her book gave me the extra push I needed to brave the unknown and enough knowledge to feel confident that I would return. An excellent guidebook to paddling in Hawaii and a great general reference for this marvelous sport.

Once this book got to ACTUAL paddling locations, it was quite good. However, almost half of the book was spent on kayaking basics which, I would venture to guess, most of those purchasing this book already are familiar with.

This is such a cool book. For one, the art is mixed media and done very well. Two, the story is so good and has a great message that kids get. This is one of my niece's favorite books. My niece is 4.

Nice moral to the story. As an adult, I liked it. This book just didn't capture my six year old daughter's interest.

The art work in this book is excellent. The story is cute, if not a little ascetic. I hope my kid still has a sense of humor after growing up on this story. Ultimately, we need more children's books on this level.
