I sent her a different puzzle book a week or so before this one - it was all crosswords, but way too easy for her and she was bored. This one she worked on every day and finished all of them. She also said the print was really large and clear. It's a good one.

About the Author

Richard T. De George is University Distinguished Professor of Philosophy and Co-Director of the International Center for Ethics in Business at the University of Kansas.  He received his Ph.D. from Yale University and he has been a research fellow at Yale University, Columbia University, Stanford University, and the Hoover Institution.  He was the Charles J. Dirksen Professor of Business Ethics at Santa Clara University in 1986, and a Visiting Professor at the Graduate School of Business at the University of  St. Gallen, Switzerland in 1985.   He is the author of over 200 articles and the author or editor of twenty books, including The Ethics of Information Technology and Business (2003); Business Ethics (also available in Japanese, Russian, Serbian and Chinese); and Competing With Integrity in International Business (1993), also translated into Chinese.  He has been the President of several academic organizations, including the American Philosophical Association, the Metaphysical Society of America, the Society for Business Ethics, and International Society for Business, Economics, and Ethics.  He has given invited lectures on six continents at a great many universities and keynote addresses to a variety of organizations both here and abroad, including such places as Tokyo, Como, Barcelona, Rio de Janeiro, and Perth. He has been a consultant for Motorola, Hallmark Cards, Kansas City Power and Light, Koch Industries, and General Motors, among others, and is a specialist in international business ethical issues and codes.  In 2009 the Society for Business Ethics presented him with a special award “In recognition of a career of outstanding service to the field of business ethics”   In November, 1996, he received an honorary doctorate from Nijenrode University in the Netherlands together with Bill Gates and Nelson Mandela.

This book was required for one of my courses. I rented it, so of course I wasn't expecting much. It was in absolutely the worst shape of any book I've ever rented! Also, this book may cover some good material, but the way in which it's written is very dry and sometimes not in reasonable order. Even my instructor disliked this book!An extra star for Amazon's decent rental price, and good service in general. Also, the book worked for it's intended purpose, as I didn't notice any missing pages or anything like that.

I appreciated the quick shipping and excellent customer service! I would give five stars for service, but the book was just okay. It is a basic book for students who truly need it for a Business Ethics course and maybe need to understand the framework of ethics, but it is lacks good organization and engaging language. The writing style was not very conducive to learning as it was full of contradictions and took an excessive amount of words to communicate a simple concept. It reads like a philosophy textbook that can easily put a person to sleep.

Possibly the worst book I have ever read. The author is making failing attempts to sound intelligent. The book is overtly verbose and intentionally obtuse. Upon finishing the introduction, I have no idea what business ethics really means to this author. I am a straight A student, but I am going to drop this class for something else entirely because I cannot fathom reading this book every day. My girlfriend got home late from work last night and noted that I was in a horrible mood. She was right and I didn't even know why. Her coming home is usually the highlight of my day, but I was so angry about the reading that I was doing that I couldn't even be excited to see her. I enjoy school and love to learn, but this book completely saps my energy and makes it nearly impossible for me to find the desire to study my other subjects. Some people have written that it reads like a doctorate piece. I couldn't disagree more. I have taken several law classes so I understand the concept of weeding people out through legalese...let's not give this author that much credit. This is pure trash. Needless to say, avoid this at all costs.

Great book, very informative.

Dry read, but good content

This is such a horrible book. I have to take a business ethics class this semester to graduate and the class is ok but the textbook is worse than the biology book I had to read my first year. The author way over uses words and thinks putting in one's people can't even pronounce makes the book sound smart or something. It's boring, horribly outdated, and you don't really learn a whole lot from it. I feel bad for anyone who's required to read this like I have to. The way its written is appalling as well. One of the worst reads ever!

Ok that was a corny title. We enjoy this book and its colorful illustrations. Both my three and –almost five- year olds really like it. It can be a good start to a conversation about space and planets. It is fun to read out loud and then go get other library books on the topic. In the tradition of other Dr. Seuss books it rhymes.The book is updated to have a sad reminder that Pluto is no longer in the line up and we end our naming game with Neptune. And to make it even better it is a level 2 reader and slowly but surely after several readings my son is starting to feel comfortable reading a few pages when he is in the mood. I expect that after many readings the kids will learn to name the planets without noticing. What a great addition to our kid library!

I like the book in the print version, but I was trying to encourage first graders to read Early Readers. The screens (see my pictures) were not visually engaging. They could read the words, but I know I didn't really tempt them to race to the Early Reader shelf with what they saw here!

6 yr old daughter says, "A little dull." She thinks it is better for kindergarten. She liked the topic (planets) but disliked the rhymes because they used the same words too often.

Bought for my 6 year old who was having a hard time reading. I have found these particular level 2 reader books (Step Into Reading) much easier for him to read (and sound out the words). Added bonus was that we learned a few things about each of the planets. Beautiful pictures. Fun read! How can you go wrong with a Cat in The Hat Knows A Lot About That book?!

I’ve never read a book that resonated with me on such a personal level. I savored many of the chapters, and found that Maria’s words kept bringing me “back to center.” I’ve Been Thinking is, quite simply, a wonderful book, and it will be a permanent fixture on my nightstand.

I'm 65, recently retired and lost in this confusing world now. When I saw Maria Shriver on the "Today" show, listening to her about this new book, I knew I needed to read it. It inspires hope in what will come in the future. I've started rosary meditation with this new year beginning, and it has calmed me down.She focuses on issues, some of us have at this time in life. This 24/7 news cycle,keeps me on edge, kids moving out and starting families of their own, and my own moving out of my house and living a simpler life. Being alone a lot and missing family time, busyness and jobs keeping us separated from one another.But she inspires me to have Hope. Hope that this is but a moment in time, thingswill get better. I'm sure I will re-read her book over and over as I re evaluate my life and how I want my story to read. She has given me HOPE. Thank you Maria.

In this personal, honest book, Maria Shriver welcomes us into her thought processes, her life, and what she’s learned. While reading my review copy, I felt as if she’d invited me over for a cup of tea to talk about her life. The book contained so many pearls of wisdom from her, and from countless other deep thinkers—poets, philosophers, and more—people of diverse faiths, beliefs, and professions, who offered words that we can all live by. Written in short readable chapters with Shriver’s own prayers at the end of each, it’s perfect for periods of meditation. She touches on aspects of human life that we all experience—gratitude, regret, joy, family truths, mental health, aging, empty nesting, sorrow, happiness, mothering, rest, and reflection. This will be a book that I underline, re-read, give to others, and keep by my bedside.

This is a beautiful book, both inside and out. Maria touches on what really makes life meaningful and reflects on what is needed to live a life that matters. I especially resonated with her thoughts about entering a new phase of motherhood--one that requires letting go of the ties to our children as they venture on their own. What I like most about this book is that you can open it to any page and instantly find bits of wisdom that will guide you through your daily life.

One of the best books I have read. Starting to read it a 2nd time. Can relate to so much in each chapter. Makes you want to stop and think about things in your life and how to change it. I now read ma chapter every day before going to school to teach

While I much appreciated Maria's honesty, her sincerity, and her writing, this book just didn't resonate with me personally. I think the intent of the book is to serve as a nightstand motivation read that you can reach for and get bite sized pieces of wisdom and motivation. The book is broken up into various topics including change, aging, gratitude, love, etc, with each topic spanning no more than 1-3 pages, followed by a daily prayer at the end. I liked the fact that Maria stated up front for the reader to take what works for them from her writing, and leave the rest while also acknowledging that "God" as she references in the book means something different to each person.So, while there was alot to like, this book for me personally, just wasn't substantive enough to make it one that I would reach for when I need a substantive dose of inspiration. My personal feeling was that it felt alot like cotton candy, soft, sweet and pleasant for the first 5 seconds, but left me wanting more. Beautiful sentiments, just not much lasting substance that I felt I could use.

I HAVE ALL BUT ONE OF MARIA SHRIVER'S BOOKS. SHE IS A WONDERFUL WRITER AND A COMPASSIONATE PERSON. I ENJOYED ALL HER BOOKS. I HOPE SHE CONTINUES WRITING. SHE DID A WONDERFUL JOB RAISING HER KIDS. YOU NEVER HEAR ANYTHING BAD ABOUT THEM AND THEY WERE NEVER IN THE NEWS. SHE WRITES AS THOUGH SHE WERE TALKING WITH THE PERSON READING THE BOOKS. THEY ARE A JOY TO READ. DEFINITELY WORTH BUYING.

This is not your regular self-help book; nor a kiss and tell; and not a "poor me" look at what I've been through in my life book. Rather Maria Shriver becomes a gentle guide rowing our life boat through trials and tribultation in the river of life. Maria becomes a "sharing sister," opening up about her observations and experiences of life to the reader. Her courage to share allows the reader to relate to similiar situations in their life. The book is filled with grace, love, and care of the subjects she addresses. I highly recommend "I've been thinking..." as a gift to a friend or a gift to yourself.

A great read with a charming art style that brings me back

Starport is based on a script Martin wrote in the 90s, and it's definitely a show I would watch. I love that they decided to adapt it to the comic format, whoever edited it made sure to make it fit the genre. As with all of Martin's work, the world building of Starport is fantastic. The story has a satisfying enough ending that it wraps up in the one novel, but there is so much in there to build off that it could easily continue. I definitely think it is worth checking out if you are into comics, GRRM, and extraterrestrials coming to earth.

Ten years ago the alien Chasheen arrived on Earth. They are members of an interstellar commonwealth known as the Harmony of Worlds, 314 species living and trading together in the interests of galactic peace. They offered humanity the chance to become the 315th member and humanity accepted. Three great starports have been built to link Earth to these other worlds, the latest of which is located in Chicago. Charlie Baker, newly promoted to detective on the squad overseeing the Starport district, is keen to use his knowledge of alien worlds and civilisations to help on the job, but discovers that not all of his fellow officers - or civilians - are that keen on the alien presence.From roughly 1985 to early 1993, George R.R. Martin worked in Hollywood in the film and TV industry. He worked on The Twilight Zone and Beauty and the Beast, rising to become a producer on the latter. This earned him enough credits to try creating his own show, so he wrote a slew of pilots. Doorways was the only one that was filmed, and that never made it to series or the air. Another, written in 1992/93 shortly before he gave up on Hollywood to return home to resume work on an epic fantasy side-project called A Game of Thrones, was called Starport. It did the rounds of the four American TV networks before being turned down for being (as per usual with GRRM) too long and too expensive.A quarter of a century later, Starport has been given a new lease of life as a graphic novel, adapted from Martin's original 90-minute script by Raya Golden. Golden previously adapted Martin's story Meathouse Man as a graphic novel to some acclaim, and Starport is an altogether larger and more impressive project.As a graphic novel, it's an attractive package. The art is vivid, colourful and pops at the reader. The script is punchy and pacy, with the pages flipping by quite quickly despite the book's impressive length (almost 300 pages). Golden's artwork is excellent, mixing a classic comic book feel with modern colouring techniques and some crazy panels of technicolor alien vistas and species that feels out of a mid-1970s Marvel cosmic epic.The script has been updated, with VHS jokes going out and smartphones coming in. The dialogue is mostly decent and well-done, although Martin's script hews towards TV standards of the 1990s a bit too closely at times (with more short, soundbitey quips and less of the longer, more erudite speeches that may be associated with his fantasy work, although this does keep the pace flowing). There's also the feeling of some references being updated but others not: so the internet is mentioned but the cultural touchpoints are Gilligan's Island and Kojak, which do feel a bit dated.The protagonists are a likeable bunch, a mixture of beat cops looking to improve themselves, cynical lifers just trying to reach their pension, geeks fascinated by aliens, bigots who hate them and so on. The characters tend towards archetypes, like the undercover cop who gets in a bit too deep and justifies some dubious behaviour (like sleeping with much younger women) by saying it is to maintain his cover, but do have some depth thanks to the graphic novel's length. The adaptation is generous at almost 300 pages (to cover what was originally a 90-minute TV script) which allows it to delve deep into the characters and premise. There's a few characters who don't have a lot to do, which is where the "TV pilot" feel comes in a bit more (characters set up for bigger things further down the line), but it also helps the story feel more realistically populated.It's easy to see why Starport never got made in the early 1990s. It has an epic scale and scope which I think would have been hard to translate to the screen. It also came along not long after the Alien Nation movie (1988) and TV spin-off (1989-90) which was abruptly cancelled. Although Starport's premise is rather different - a police force of humans working alongside alien security forces from the titular starport, rather than alien refugees joining the police force - the surface similarity may have put some producers off. The premise also feels a little bit like the later Babylon 5, with the starport serving as a meeting and mixing ground for hundreds of alien races and humans.Starport (****) is brash, enjoyable and fantastically-illustrated. Those looking for a deep, immersive, serious story like A Song of Ice and Fire may feel disappointed, but those looking for a fun, pulpy SF yarn will be well-catered for.
