David A. Madsen is an emeritus faculty member in drafting technology and the Autodesk Premier Training Center at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, Oregon, where he also served as an instructor and department chairperson for nearly 30 years. In addition to his community college experience, David served as a drafting technology instructor at Centennial High School in Gresham, Oregon. He is a former member of the American Design and Drafting Association (ADDA) Board of Directors and was honored by the ADDA with Director Emeritus status at the annual conference in 2005. David is an Autodesk Authorized Author and has extensive experience in mechanical drafting, architectural design and drafting, and building construction. He holds a master of education degree in vocational administration and a bachelor of science degree in industrial education. I actually really enjoyed this book. This was the first book we read for nursing school and I learned so much. It's easy to read and the chapters aren't tremendously long. I also loved how the book provided online NCLEX practice questions per chapter. The book also had great tables, graphs and assessments for the reader to complete. I highly recommend this book to anyone pursuing a BSN.

This is a wonderful book. It has clear directions with good accompanying photographs for making felt, buckram, and straw hats of various kinds, plus explanations of several kinds of trimmings. I have found this and Classic Millinery Techniques by Albrizio, which covers dressmaker sewn hats and buckram techniques as well as trimmings, to be essentials for learning the art of milinery. Both have inspiring photographs of modern finished hats.Addition: Two things I noticed about this book. One, apparently British hat blocks never have tie lines which all the brim blocks and some of the head blocks I have used do. Tie lines (grooves in the wood) makes life much easier as instead of all the pinning shown in this book, you use a cord with a slipknot and tighten it in the groove, pulling the felt or material to get it smooth. Two, this woman does everything by hand! You can use a sewing machine for many steps and save a lot of time, and most people will not know the difference.

This book is excellent! The techniques for the felt hats are pretty much exactly what I learned in a millinery class that I took at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. The designs are fresh twists on classic hats and there are definitely a good variety of hats to learn. There are photos of each step of the process for each hat, which helps visual learners like me. Sarah also explains all of the supplies that are needed as well as the different materials needed for making each hat. This is a great book for anyone looking to learn millinery in a modern format.

Great book, Id recommend this book to anyone interested in milinery techniques. Good quality book, all color pics, clear precise instructions and templates. 128 pages with glossary.

This book is not what I expected. It is for miners (sp?). Too hard for me.I gave it FOUR STARS, though, because it is a good book, and would be good for someone with a little experience, and the money to put into the equipment.

Love this book...have had lovely rides on it. Hey, can we have installment 2 please? Maps could be a little more detailed. Nice descriptions, great locations.

This book is a classic. The book is now more than 20 years old, so some of the rides are outdated, but almost all of them are just as beautiful and rideable as they originally were. Do the Cape Ann ride every year, and Howard's description is still perfectly correct.

While the other reviewers appear to be very satisfied with this book, I have to disagree. I have now tried three different rides in this book throughout MA, and EVERY one of them had significant errors or unclear directions at various points along the route. I would only suggest buying this book as a guide of where to bike, but NOT to use it routes.When I tried one of the rides recently, the directions indicated the rider to "bear left" at a non-existed merge, while the map showed a hard right. The correct path to follow turned out to be a hard left (greater than 90 degree turn). There was another error on the same route.

I've been using this book for several years. The rides are consistently well thought out with regards to safety, accessibility, scenic interest and level of difficulty. However, you are going to have to re-write the directions for yourself in a way that isn't completely incomprehensible. Side notes and points of interest are fine, but a cue sheet needs to be clean and clear. The author separates street names, turn directions and distances over several lines, often putting the end position first, or worse, never even gives a street name amongst the muddle.This book in conjunction with your mapping website or GPS is a great resource for novice and intermediate riders.

I have enjoyed many of the rides detailed in this book. They are among the most scenic I have experienced. But the author goes beyond simply choosing routes based on scenery, terrain, mileage, etc. He also seems to have a knowledge and appreciation for the different elements of the routes themselves. It's not uncommon for him to mention historical highlights of the communities the rides pass through, or the significance of landmarks along the routes. What the cyclist gets from this book is not just "go 1.2 miles, turn left and go to the end", but also a wealth of information about the rides that adds a whole new dimension to the cycling experience. This book is a must for anyone who enjoys a good bike ride.

Both author and illustrator must be two caring people. This book sweetly and gently bring a place of comfort to the mind, when something is no longer present. The little hippo gets sad . But the author and illustrator express the sadness with the little hippo tugging a heavy block, everywhere she goes, everyday. Along comes a very happy cute alligator, who doesn't pass her by, but spends a little time with her. Helping her in her time of need. This book gently shows the hippo being able to talk about why she is sad. The alligator knew from the beginning all she needed was a little help.
